2. NEW ARTICLES
Adoption Secrets - new article by Kathy Tuttle
I have no rights to search. I cannot even find an agency to talk to in the state of WA. What is the reason for all of the secrecy? Why can a birth parent not have free access to their child? Why can that child not have free access to their birth parents? Who are these agencies protecting? The children who want to know their birthparents? The parents who want to know their children? That goes against every natural law there is. Family is the strongest bond there is. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=9
Gladney Babies - new article by B.P. Blanchard
I am adopted and am so thankful that I was adopted by my parents. I can't think of any place I'd rather be than with my family. My husband and I adopted a beautiful baby girl. She is twenty-three now. She and I are both "Gladney Babies". http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=7.
The Parable of the Braided Ribbons…Restoring Honor and Openness Among Those Touched by Adoption - new article by Sherrie Eldridge
It happens every time the birth family is honored in front of the adoptee, for whenever that happens, the adoptee is also blessed and honored. Nature and nurture is mysteriously woven together, and the blossoming of the adoptee's full potential is a step closer. Celebrating the differences between the adoptee and the adoptive family is another way of restoring honor to the birth family. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=8.

4. ADOPTION BOOK CLUB
Attaching in Adoption
Deborah Gray's, Attaching in Adoption, is the book in focus this week. Gray, an attachment therapist, provides support, encouragement, and several anecdotes in her attempt to help adoptive parents deal with the challenges they face as new parents.
This book touches on the important reality that issues of trust, race, prenatal exposures, etc. exist or arise in many cases of adoption, whether domestic or international. With Gray's suggestions and techniques, parents learn to establish better relationships with their traumatized adopted children.

Congratulations to everyone who has been reunite with their birthfamily this week! Please share your story with us at www.AdoptionWeek.com.
The adoptee is 6'1!!!!! And you know what?..I would have never gotten ahold of her if it weren't for you!!! - Gina
I just had to tell you the outcome of this. Due to the info you gave me, I found my birth son. I have already been in touch with him, verified the information we had & I have received a picture of him which clinched it all. Thank you so much for giving me his e-mail address & I'm so glad that adoption sites exist for all that are searching. I can't even begin to tell you how I am feeling at the moment, but believe me it's a good feeling. Thanks again. - Stephanie
Thank you for fowarding me the e-mail...........WE HAD A SUCCESSFUL REUNION...........my birthmother and I met on Tuesday.............thank you very much! - Karen
I just wanted to inform you that we have been successfully reunited with Lindsey. She has been positively identified as the person we were looking for. Thank you so much for making it possible through your wonderful website! Last month I found two other children from the same family and we were reunited after eighteen years, now we have Lindsey the whole family is together. Lindsey was shocked to hear she had an older sister and two older brothers. We are planning an entire family reunion in July. Thank you all so much. I searched for two years faithfully and it paid off. Happily reunited, Lydia (cousin)
I guess I should be thanking you! I have a match ;) I can't believe that the posted the message 2/17/02 and on 2/23/02 I have found my daughter. I live in Georgia and she in NY so no reunion between us yet, but she met my family today. I can't believe this. Thank you so much. - Anne
Looks good... Liz and I have sent a few e-mails and we think it seems like the real deal..I still don't quite understand how we really got connected again....the powers that be are lining up I guess, but thank you for any help you gave us! A whole new chapter unfolds now! Forever grateful, Karen
Good morning everyone, just a few words to let you know that I am a birthmother that has been reunited with my son of 34 years this past June. My youngest daughter (to whom I had just told my story to), found Mark on the Adoption Registry site just 3 days after being told she had a brother out there somewhere. The best part is that Mark had only put in his request in 3 months earlier. My daughter had no computer or internet skills whatsoever, but she played with the computer for over 3 hours one time and on her second try, BAM! Yours is out there, never give up... you sons and daughters, don't ever give up, someone out there is looking for you, whether it be your mother, father, sisters or brothers..... I HOPE EVERYONE'S REUNION HAS A HAPPY ENDING AS OURS HAS HAD!!!!! - Irène (Ottawa, Canada)
I have found my daughter Kristin with the help of a volunteer and we have had a phone conversation and have exchanged pictures. My family was amazed at the family resemblance. - Robert
Both my adopted son and I had registered several years with the NYS Dept. of Health Registry. They never matched us up. If it hadn't been for your site, I don't think we would have found each other -- and both of us were searching. This is truly a dream come true. Thank you, thank you, thank you! - Audeen

11. ADOPTION GEM
"Butterfly Kisses"
We often learn the most from our children. Some time ago, a friend of mine punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy." He was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found that the box was empty. He yelled at her, "Don't you know that when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside of it?" The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Daddy it's not empty. I blew kisses into the box. All for you, Daddy." The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl and he begged for forgiveness. My friend told me that he kept that gold box by his bed for years. Whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

12. ADOPTION POLL
RESULTS OF OUR LAST POLL
Question: Do you think this bill should be passed?
64.4% - Yes, foster children should not be punished
31.1% - Yes, foster children need the same opportunities that their other peers have open to them.
4.4% - No, foster children need a lot of supervision and if this bill passes, things could get worse.
0% - No, the government should do what they feel is best for these children, because these children do not know what is best for them.
VOTE IN OUR CURRENT POLL
The children up for adoption through DCF are all special-needs children - either a member of a minority ethnicity, part of a sibling group that can't be broken up, age 8 or older or have physical or emotional problems.
And because they probably have gone through the trauma of abuse, neglect or other kind of separation, they have a higher risk of having emotional problems than the population in general.
Read the article: http://www.adoption.com/includes/frame.php?url=http://www.sunone.com/articles/2002-02-25d.shtml
Question: Should adoptive parents have to "put up" with the misbehavior of special needs children after adoption?
No, if the child was no problem prior to adoption, it should not be the duty of the new parents to teach the child proper manners.
No, adoptive parents are doing them a favor by adopting them, so they should not have to put up with any misbehavior.
Yes, they should: love endures all things.
Yes, if you are willing to adopt, you should be prepared for ANYTHING and ready to accept the child any way.

19. ADOPTION POETRY
Family Ties
"I have no ribbon lace,"
said my hair to my Self
when the brown curls fell
in the mirror on the shelf.
"I cannot find a trace,"
said my nose to my Self,
"of any family resemblance"
in the mirror on the shelf.
"I know not from what grace,"
said my cheeks to my Self,
"the blush that came to be there"
in the mirror on the shelf.
"I do not know the place,"
said my teeth to my Self,
"where my mouth left my smile"
in the mirror on the shelf.
"I am without a face,"
said my eyes to my Self
as we looked each other
in the mirror on the shelf.
