A Reunion Gone Great! - new article by Laurie S.
Now, the search question of adoption came to me through my own children. I would never leave a question hanging on them, the way my adoptive parents have done to me. Any subject a child wants to discuss should be discussed. If you bypass it once, they might not come to you a second time. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=264
Honoring Veteran Birthmothers - new article by Skye Hardwick
Their parents were ashamed of the deed their daughters had done and, fearing what their pastor, their neighbors, their friends, and co-workers would say, they shipped their daughters off to a cold maternity home, often states away, appeasing curious neighbors with the lie, "Oh, she is staying with an aunt." http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=265
Grieving: Natural, Normal, and Necessary - new article by Nicole Lambert Strickland
For birthmothers, grieving the loss of a placed child is a very hard thing, as the child is still alive, just not with them. Some birthmothers do not take the time to grieve and mourn the loss of a placed child. In most cases, it comes back to them later down the road. It is best for birthmothers to allow themselves the right and the opportunity to healthily grieve.

Making A World of Difference! - new article by Marian J. Schurz
The idea of hosting is really quite simple. Families welcome a student into their home and treat them like a member of the family…as if your niece or nephew were coming to live with you for 10 months. He or she attends your local high school, does homework, helps with chores around the house, makes friends, and takes part in normal family and school activities. Hosts need to provide a bed, a quiet place to study, meals with the family, support and encouragement, and the same rules, responsibilities and privileges you would offer a teen of your own. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=267

6. FEATURED WAITING CHILD
Moses is a playful, friendly, hispanic boy. He easily engages in conversation and is typically social. A good student, he tells others he is "very smart" and that his favorite subject is reading. He likes Christian music. Moses has a strong bond to his sister, Maria, and would like to be adopted with his siblings. A family for Moses would need to be consistent and have clear expectations plus boundaries. Moses would benefit from a positive relationship to a father figure. A family for Moses would also need to be understanding of his strong bond to his foster family.

InternationalAdoption.org is the internet's authoritative destination for international adoption. You will find fact sheets, adoption information, travel information, culture and heritage, maps, weather, books, currency exchange rates, periodicals, news and much more for dozens of different countries with active international adoption programs.
This week, the country of focus is Paraguay.
Paraguay is located in Central South America, northeast of Argentina. It has a market economy marked by a large informal sector. The informal sector features both reexport of imported consumer goods to neighboring countries as well as the activities of thousands of microenterprises and urban street vendors. Because of the importance of the informal sector, accurate economic measures are difficult to obtain.

10. JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT
PRAYING LIKE MOMMY
A woman invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to her six-year-old daughter and said, "Would you like to say the blessing?"
"I wouldn't know what to say," the little girl replied.
"Just say what you hear Mommy say, " the mother said.
The little girl bowed her head and said, "Dear Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?"

11. TO BIRTHMOTHERS AROUND THE WORLD
Whether you are still searching for her, have met her, or know little about her, one thing remains true - she gave you the only gift you may have ever received from her, but which is invaluable - life.
Saturday, May 10th is the day that has been chosen to honor these special, unique women in the lives of so many. As Mary Jean Wolch-Marsh, the "mother" of Birthmother's Day, simply put it:
"May Birth Mother's Day bring acknowledgement and recognition to every birth mother who ever loved a child lost to adoption. May it honor and celebrate every mother who became childless after birthing a child, and was forgotten on Mother's Day."
To all birthmothers across the globe, THANK YOU for the joy you have brought into the lives of many adoptive families and hope you have given your children all around the world!!!

14. SOUND COUNSEL
Question:
I was adopted in 1965 in Gainesville, Florida. How could I find any
information about my bio-parents? I would like to know their medical history,
because I am having some medical problems that could be genetic. If I could
get that info w/o knowing their names, that would be fine with me. It would
be nice to contact them, but my motivating factor is knowing my bio-family
medical history.
Thanks,
M.
Answer:

You can always start by petitioning the courts to provide you with
non-identifying information. This is rarely not obtainable. You may also
want to try your search with the following links:

15. SPEAK OUT
My brother Jeff and I are both adopted. As a child, my parnets always said they picked us out.
Now, when I was young, I got the choice - did I want a little brother? Now, being only 3, I said yes.
Then the joke was my folks would tease me and say they were going to give him back. (Smiling, of course.) Now, I get mad and say, no way, he was MY little brother!! Of course as a teenager, I was sure I had been crazy as a child lol. But Jeff is my real brother and I love him despite that fact lol.
Now, as an adult, I have 3 nephews and 1 niece from him. A nice real family.
Adoption is as real as it gets, folks. - LISA

I am the proud Mama of five, two of which are adopted transracially (I am
white, and they are African American). I was at the doctor with one of my
babies and a lady asked, "Is he yours?"
Me: Yep, all 20 pounds of him.
Lady: Are you married?
Me: Yes
Lady: Which one of you is black?
Me: Niether...me: thinking--- duh
Lady: mouth open in question
Me: Laughing... He is an adopted angel
Lady: What is he?
Me: A wonderful baby...African American
Lady: Where is he from?
Me: Heaven, just like all babies
Doctor's front desk people: Smiles and nods

I am searching for my birth mom. I was born April 19, 1970 in Tacoma,

I want to know who I am. Thank you. - Stephanie
---------------------------------
I had a son on June 10, 1975 by Caesarean Section at Scott AFB in Illinois.
His birth name is Jason Shawn Brigman. He was adopted in August of 1975 by an Air
Force couple. I only want to know that he is okay and how he looks, as I have not
seen him since he was 2 months old. His father and I split up after his birth,
and I was alone in a city with no one to help me, so I put him up for adoption.
My foster parents in North Carolina disowned me because of the pregnancy, and I
have been alone since then. I was a foster child myself. Apparently my dad walked
out on my mom and left her with ten kids, and I was the baby and put up
for adoption. I was always a foster child, never adopted. So Brigman is my birth name.
If you know about Jason and would like to contact me, or about any of my siblings by birth,
you can contact me at rachelbrig@yahoo.com.

My name is Pamela Morales and I am searching for two of my children who
were adopted in San Diego, Ca. My son was named Floyd Dallas Thompson; we call him
"Dallas". His birthdate is 4/12/1984. His birthplace is Waukegan, Il. My daughter was
named Amy Lynn Thompson, and her birthplace is also Waukegan, Il, birthdate 4/10/1985.
I haven't seen them since 1989, in San Diego,Ca. I was not for the adoption, but it was
out of my hands. I just want to let them know that I have never given up on them & that I
love them with all of my heart. - MoralesFamily8@aol.com
---------------------------------
I was born Lisa Kaye Johnson on 10-14-1967 to Marlene (Mercer) Johnson
and Jimmy Johnson at Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital in Houston Texas.
My birth mother had 5 other children, and I was eventually adopted by my
maternal grandmother and step grandfather at the age of three. I have
been searching for many years and have copies of all court papers and
original birth certificate which states Jimmy Johnson was a burglar
alarm installer. He may have also worked on the docks in Galveston Texas
where he met Marlene while she was working in a bar. Anyone with
information (no matter how insignificant) may reach me at my email
address of JCR0928@Msn.com.
---------------------------------
I am looking for my birth father and/or members of his family. I am a
female, born on July 11, 1935, at Booth Hospital in Los Angeles,
California. I was adopted through the Children's Home Society in Los
Angeles. I believe my birth father's name was LLOYD BARHANIM, and he
was a ticket agent for a railroad in Los Angeles. He was about 29-years-old
at the time of my birth. His father was deceased; he had three
brothers and one sister. My birth parents were not married. My birth
mother was Ruth Joyce Masterson, 19 years old, and she went by her
middle name. Joyce died of Embolus 1 1/2 hours after my birth. She had
a son named Robert (Bobby) Temple, she was divorced from Bobby's father,
Thomas Henry Temple. Joyce resided with her parents, Edward and Ruth
Masterson, and lived at 2160 Prosser Ave., W. Los Angeles, CA, at the
time of her death. I was adopted by friends of my maternal birth
family, and grew up knowing my maternal birth family. My 1/2 brother and
I are the only one's in our family still living, that we know of. I am
DESPERATE for medical information, and I don't have the finances to pay
an attorney to go to court for information on my birth father. If anyone has
any information regarding anyone by the name of BARHANIM, please e-mail me at
marilynandrus@aol.com. Thank you for your help.

16. ADOPTION ONLINE SUPPORT GROUP REVIEW
Here's a recent post from the Hopeful Parents group:
Dear Carrie,
Right now, we have a birthmother looking at our profile, but she has not
made a decision yet. She is due in May. She cannot make up her mind, and
our lawyer said it will be a last minute decision. I am trying not to get
my hopes up, as I think that if she knew who she wanted, then she would have
already decided by now. We checked in earlier in April with our
lawyer....have not talked with her since. I guess originally, the
birthmother wanted a family who already had children in their family. Now
she is looking at three profiles-- couples without children.
Scott and I went with a smaller agency, as that is all we can afford. We
have not looked into foster care through the state. We did not look into
international adoption, as we cannot afford that either. We went through
one IVF that failed--all out-of-pocket expense, still paying on that for
another 3 years.
It is very hard waiting, as we have wanted children since we were married,
almost 7 years now in May. I am planning on calling our agency here soon.
I feel like I am pestering them; but they do not call and give us updates.
It is only when we do the asking that they tell what is happening.
How long have you been waiting for your child through dosmestic adoption?
Our agency told us it could be anywhere from 2-5 years, but when everyone
else on the list has been chosen, it is hard knowing that you are the
longest waiting on the list. We are looking to adopt a Caucasian baby.

17. ADOPTION POETRY
MY CHILD
My child, I carried you in my heart before you were even born
And dared to dream that you were real.
My child, I carried your picture with me since the day I received it,
And dared to love a child I was yet to meet.
My child, I carried you in my arms at last, and gazed in helpless wonder
at your face,
And dared to lose my heart to you.
And now, my child, a dream fulfilled, a prayer answered, a family
created, I have dared to become a mom.
And so now, my precious child,
I shall carry you home.

I am a birthmom in a failed reunion with my birthson, but my daughter
works with a lady who is waiting for a call any day that she is to travel
to China to pick up the baby girl she is adopting. My daughter found
this verse on the Internet somewhere and forwarded it to me so that I
could "fancy" it up as she wants to frame it and give it to her
co-worker. In many ways, I related the verse to myself many years ago,
but I thought it was truly meant for all those wonderful adoptive moms
out there.
