Attention Adoptees: Searching for Your Birthparents - new article by Sabrina Glidden
As an adult, I've had to come to terms with some facts. I never properly attached to my mother. Now that my mom has begun to live a sober life, she expects a closeness that I’ve always longed for. However, I feel unable to need or want her the way she expects me to. I, as many adopted adults claim to, feel that something is missing. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=100

In Response to Lane's Comments - new article by Loretta Booker
I had some resentments, embarrassment, shame and hurt feelings about being illegitimate and having been given up. I also had the normal parental resentments about being 'controlled' and 'not fairly treated' which I held on to til I did a personal development course (the Landmark Forum) and gave up those feelings. I also heard stories of people who had grown up in situations MUCH worse than I and saw how good I'd had it. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=101

Being Adopted Doesn't Bother Me - new article by Steve Loftin
I was informed, by my "parents" (and they are my parents, biological or not), from a very early age about the fact that I was adopted. I have grown and formed "my own opinions", over the years, with an open mind. I realize that I can never fully understand the circumstances of why my biological mother made her choice, but I have to give her the benefit of the doubt, simply for the fact that I "do not know" the circumstances. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=102

An "Every-Day" Adoption Story - new article by Anonymous
I am your every-day, normal (as possible), average, well-adjusted woman. I wasn't a "brain child", nor am I an idiot. I was shy as a child, but not seriously so. I am married, and my husband and I both work to make ends meet. I have always known, as long as I can remember, that I was adopted. I also always knew in my mind that my birth mother had to have made the hardest decision in anyone's life, the decision to give up a child. I can't remember how I found out that I was adopted. I've always known. It really never mattered to me. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=103

4. DAVE THOMAS CENTER FOR ADOPTION LAW WEEKLY NEWS SUMMARY

August 13, 2002

"FLORIDA NEWSPAPER FINDS NINE KIDS MISSING" (FL) Using law enforcement profiles, public records and interviews with relatives, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel found nine children that had been declared missing by the state's Department of Children and Families. Although the newspaper did not have access to DCF's files, it found more than one-third of the children in four weeks-two in less than three hours.

"A SHADOW ON THEIR FUTURE; SAFE HOUSING IS SYSTEM'S PRIMARY GOAL EVEN IF FREQUENT MOVES DISRUPT EDUCATION" - by Suzanne Pardington
Children in the California's care often bounce from placement to placement and school to school, losing classroom time and credits in the process. Despite evidence showing that a disproportionate number of foster care children enter adulthood without the academic skills to succeed in college or the workplace, the problem persists. In fact, studies have found that one-third to one-half of the state's foster children do not graduate from high school.

"WOMEN CHALLENGE FLORIDA ADOPTION LAW REQUIRING NEWSPAPER DISCLOSURE OF SEXUAL PAST" - by Frank Eltman
Six women plan to challenge a Florida law, which requires mothers who don't know who fathered their children to detail their sexual past in newspaper notices before they can put their children up for adoption. Under the law, the mothers have to describe or identify who may have fathered their child and must disclose when and where the baby was likely conceived. Although the law went into effect in October, complaints have only recently started piling up.

5. ADOPTION BOOK CLUB

ADOPTIONS ARE MADE IN HEAVEN
This book is a fairy-tale story of how God planned out adoption and how He makes it possible. The book tells the story of adoption. When God sees that many people are brokenhearted because they cannot have children, He gathers his host of angels. He assigns them as His messengers who will sow seeds in these people's hearts. Even though they cannot have children of their own, they can adopt kids who also need their love.

8. FEATURED WAITING CHILD

Meet Trovias. He is a playful, rambunctious African American male who loves to talk and entertain. He is cute and cuddly but he sometimes acts out in a negative manner. Trovias plays football and other outdoor activities. The best discipline technique is to take these activities from him. He is being prepared for placement and dreams about a family who will take him out to eat, to the movies and other fun things. He also wants a family who will love him just as he is now. A family that is able to provide this unconditional love in a structured environment will be best for this young man.

15. SPEAK OUT

Because of this wonderful site, I have found my birthmother after 22 years. All I did was put my information on AdoptionRegistry.com at no cost, and hoped that someday she would find me. Thank you so much for giving me the chance to say, "Dreams do come true." - Shara

---------------------------------

Hi. I am a bmom searching for my daughter born in Dunkirk, NY at Brooks Mem. Hosp. on Sept. 5, 1982. Although I placed my daughter, the love I have for her is greater than ever. I could not provide for her at that time in my life so I gave a very wanderful couple the chance to raise a child and love her and give her everything she so deserved. I respect the adoptive parents with all my heart, and my dream is to someday be their friend. I want to thank them, because if it weren't for wonderful couples like them, our children would suffer. I made the ultimate sacrifice, and I feel I deserve to be in her life one day soon. I can understand that some adoptive parents feel threatened by the bmom, but I assure you I am not a threat. God bless.

I was reading through the responses to Terry Bagby information. We have tried to get into the foster care system through our county. Unfortunately, as soon as we said the word "ADOPTION", it was like a red flag. The county didn't want to work with us and sent us on to the State in their special needs department. Once we met with the state, they explained that we should really try to work with our county. We decided that it was enough ring-a-round-the-rose moves. We are now trying to adopt through a private agency. We are looking for any children younger than 5 years of age. The foster care system works in some counties and states, but not all of them. - Michele Armstrong

I'm looking for my Bio-Mother and sibblings. I've hired a CI and with her help she found my bio-father. It has been 2 years since the reunion and have had no luck with finding my mother. My bio-father dosen't remember my mother at all. My mother has been very hard to locate. This is what I know: her name is Donna, and she was born in February 1942ish. She had 2 other childeren who are older than me. I was born March 4th 1969, and my brother and sister are in their late 30's to early 40's. I was born in Seattle, Washington. I have been told that she has moved overseas, and that her husband may be in the military. My brother, i have been told lives out side of Washington State, but in the US. I don't know anything about my sister. Please help me find my mother and siblings. I have so many questions for her and I would love to introduce her to my daughter. Email me at serenitygirl@care2.com.

---------------------------------

Hello!

I was born in Hartford, CT in 1946. My birth name was Janet Frances W. I have been told that my birthmother and my adoptive mother were friends and co-workers at the time of my birth. I was born into a family with other children. My adoption was "private" and, as of yet, the "system" refuses to respond to both my request for information and requests from a local agency. I guess the court system is hoping "I will go away". I want and need to know more information - medical information especially. My health, although stable at this time, is not good. I also want and need to know more about my "history" and background.

If there is no desire on the part of my birth family to re-unite, I fully understand and will not pursue that. I only want information. If, on the other hand, a desire to re-unite is there, then that will be handled as well. If anyone "out there" can and will help me, I will appreciate it.

Please contact me at ddtrewhella@snet.net. THANK YOU!

I have been searching for my birth mother. I have registered at Heartland Adoption, but was told that they lost all their database and couldn't help me, but I still see that all the info is on there. So I need to find another way. All the information I have about my birth mother is that she was 24 when she gave me up. I was born in Kansas City, Missouri on 8-6-68. To get any information from Missouri CPS, I have to have my adoptive parents' permission or show proof of their death. (They are not real crazy about me finding my birth parents.) I have tried getting the original birth certificate, but have been unsuccessful. I don't have very much money, so I can't hire someone to search for me. Does anyone out there have any ideas? - Kim

---------------------------------

I have posted on several adoption boards and have never received an answer. I was born at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. on May 6, 1959. My mother was a single mom with two children much older than myself. She had me when she was about 41 years old. From what I understand from my non-id info, she was an employee of the NYPD. My father left before I was born. I wasn't adopted until I was 3 years old. The info I am looking for is, does anyone out there know how I could find a list of employees from the NYPD circa late 1950's? My birth name is Walter Bernard Deere. I think I have my birthfathers last name. I don't know. Could anyone help me?

16. ADOPTION ONLINE SUPPORT GROUP REVIEW

Here's a recent post from the Adoptee Support group:

Hello All,

Thanks for all your messages and tips. I never expected such a warm reception. I just finished reading one young woman's letter to her birth mother. Some parts of it made me want to cry, because I so strongly identified with her feelings of just wanting to be herself and wanting to belong. I also was considered the "black sheep " of my family. My adoptive parents were very money concious, especially my mom. She also had a way of making me feel different from my brother and sisters. Most of the time it was not intentional and I have forgiven her for it because,as a parent myself, I know we make mistakes. The one thing I have never been able to forget is the way she used to introduce me to people. "This is Stephanie, our Cradle Baby." It made me feel like a puppy you pick at the animal shelter.

This is not what I intended to write and I am rambling. Sorry. I really just wanted to thank you all and as I become more familiar with more of you as individuals I would like to start e-mailing you personally. My search has not yet officially started but I am certain as I start corresponding more with you all I will work up the courage to do so. Thanks again, and good luck to all who are searching!!

THE MOTHER OF MY SON

I found this and thought it was incredible! Enjoy!
The mother of my son
Her hand upon my shoulder,
Crying tears of joy...
As our child comes into the world.
Eyes bright with Love,
She puts him in my arms.
Her hand on his cheek,
My arms snug about him...
He is surrounded by the Love
Of the mother of my son and I.
