“Holding” and the Adoptive Family: What, Why & When - new article by Doris Landry
It seems like an oxymoron: “holding” increases anxiety yet a parent needs to “hold” to calm the anxiety and regulate their child’s affective state. However, if a parent does not “hold” at these critical times the child’s development will be hindered at some level, with the child remaining anxious and perhaps seeing the world forever as an unsafe place. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=127
Surviving an Adoption Home Study - new article by Rebecca L. Gold
Simply stated, a home study is a process used to review the lives of prospective adoptive parents. Although home studies are required for both agency and non-agency adoptions, the approach to conducting a home study varies. Adoption agencies have the freedom to develop their own application packet, policies, and procedures within the regulations of the state and usually provide their own caseworkers to conduct the home studies. The home study itself is a written report of the findings of a social worker that has met with you and your spouse (and all other children in your family) on several occasions, with at least one meeting taking place in your home. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=128
A Birthmother's View of Adoption: Suggestions for Reform - new article by Heather Lowe
I fit none of the birth mother stereotypes. Aged 27 when I gave birth, I was hardly a teen mother. I am not poor or unstable: I have a good job with a major corporation. I am not uneducated; I have a sharp mind and an undying love of learning. My child was unplanned, but not unwanted. My family and I had much to offer my son, save the one thing we could not give him: a father who stuck around. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=129
It Was All A Lie! - new article by Terri S.
What I read next left me feeling numb inside. I could hardly breath. My body started tensing up. I desperately needed my safe place, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the letter. What it said shocked me. Who could have guessed that one paragraph in a letter could change someone’s life so drastically? I felt the past twenty-three years flash before my eyes. It was all lies! I felt sick to my stomach. It took me twenty-three years to get to this point, of wondering about my birth parents, and then recently deciding to look for them. Before that, I didn’t even know I was adopted. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=130
The Story of an Adult Adoptee - new article by Leslie Tousley
So, how have these years spent in “care” affected me in my adulthood years? My first marriage gave me a sense of belonging to begin with, but it wore off as the years went on, only to be replaced by loneliness. Replicating the past, he abandoned my daughter and me when she was a year old. Through the months that led up to the divorce, I felt “echoes” that I knew were leftovers from the past, but I did not know what specific incidence in my childhood to which it was connected. I had no one to validate my experiences and past reality. http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=131
A Promise Kept - new article by Kelly
In the days that followed I found myself wrought with sadness, even though I had made the right decision for my son. I felt alone, I felt empty, I felt a sense a loss like I had never felt before. I sat on the floor and cried like I have never cried before, I thought I would lose my mind. My parents hadn't called me to see how I was doing. No one seemed to know what they should say or do and so there I was, falling apart wondering how I would ever get on with my life...and then I felt the tiny arms of my four-year-old daughter wrap around my neck, she kissed me, wiped my tears, patted me on the back and said "It's okay mommy, God wanted us to share our baby." http://e-magazine.adoption.com/article.php?articleid=132

6. FEATURED WAITING CHILD
Lydia is a beautiful child with an engaging personality. She is affectionate and loving towards her foster parents. Small for her age, Lydia is an Anglo/Hispanic girl who gets along well with other children, but can be manipulative. She enjoys playing games, being outside, dressing up and playing with dolls. In regular school classes, Lydia has a math disability, but is passing with the guidance of her foster parents. She has been diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Conduct Disorder Not Otherwise Specified and Reactive Attachment Disorder of Infancy Disinhibited Type. Lydia takes medication to help with concentration and mood. She participates in counseling on a weekly basis and needs a lot of structure and guidance. She has no physical health problems. Lydia is one of a sibling group of three, but her brother and sister will not be adopted with her. However, she will need to be allowed continued contact with them. Lydia needs a very structured family with clear boundaries. She would benefit from being the only child in the home. A family with knowledge about reactive attachment disorder would be ideal.

14. SPEAK OUT
I have been going through some tough times lately. I'm feeling all alone in the world, even though I'm married and have a child. Nobody understands me; they keep on asking me what's wrong. I miss knowing who my birth parents are. Why should adopted children not know where they come from and who they really are? I just want to know my roots, that's all. If my birth parents want to know me, that's fine, as long as I know who I really am. Please help me. - Alone

I am happy to announce that the PA Adoption Reunion Registry now has it's own official web site. Please accept my invitation to visit the the PARR website at www.paadoptionreunionregistry.org. I am welcoming your feedback and suggestions.
---------------------------------
I'm looking for help. I recently found out I was placed for
adoption at five, possibly through an arranged adoption in 1961
to lady friend of friend of bfamily. Supposedly in
southern Wis. Anyone with info on a boy being placed,
please contact me at Brddog2410@yahoo. - Wondering
---------------------------------
Thanks to your site and God being with us, we found our daughter. Thanks
again, The Beards and The Thomases
---------------------------------
Heartbroken,
We were also matched with birthparents who decided to parent after
the birth. It was heartbreaking; we felt like I had a miscarriage. But we
prayed all along that God would place us with the child that was meant for
us. As difficult as it was, we trusted God that the baby was NOT meant to be
our baby. Four months later, we were blessed with a perfect baby boy. We
now understand God's perfect plan. It was a very difficult time, but when
the baby comes that is meant to be your baby, it will all make perfect
sense. We will keep you in our prayers. - Kathy
---------------------------------
Dear Heart broken,
I am an adoptive mother and want to tell you to hang in there. We were not chosen for the first baby we we wanted, and I felt like givint up. My heart goes out to you and your husband. My suggestion is to take one item that you purchased for your baby and get a pretty box (baby printed) or decorate it yourself. Place the item in it and also make a label with the name you had chosen to go on it. Then sit down and write a letter to the baby (even though you will probably never see him/her again). Tell him/her how you felt about becoming parents. Seal it and place it in the box. Also, with friends and family, they will not understand unless they have been there. So go ahead and cry for a week or two. Mourn your loss. Then, I ask that you try to adopt again. You seem to have a lot of love to share. Yes, give it some time. I will pray you have an adoption soon in your lives. Best wishes, An Adoptive Mom - TX
---------------------------------
I am looking for my bi-racial neice. Hope she sees this for I am desperate to find her. DOB 6-6-74/75; POB: Simi Valley Adventist Hospital - Simi Valley, CA; BIRTH NAME: Kimberly Lynn Placed for Adoption By: Childrens Home Societ in San Fernando Valley, CA Please help me find her!!!
Desperately trying to find you, for you have a loving family waiting, Jimmie Philpott
---------------------------------
I'm sure that losing the child promised to you through adoption is extremely
difficult. But think about the birth mother who has chosen life for this
child, carried this child for 9 months in her womb, and given birth to this child. Having placed a child for adoption, I know too well the pain of
losing a child. I don't have any words to ease your pain, other than God
loves you. I'm sure there will be another child available to you for adoption. In that very happy time for your family, please don't forget the birth mother who is feeling pain from losing her child. - Maryalice Gaskell

15. ADOPTION POETRY
TO SAY GOOD-BYE
The moment I saw you,
I knew deep in my soul.
That saying good-bye,
Would create in my heart a hole.
Your tiny fingers,
Ten perfect toes.
It was completely a miracle,
Seeing you, my love showed.
You were so perfect, so innocent, so pure.
I couldn’t believe I made you,
But giving you up,
Was something I wasn’t sure I could do.
But seeing them hold you.
The sparkles in their tired eyes.
Brought ease to my heart,
And love to my good-byes.
I knew the choice I was making was right, was good.
Giving you to them was something I should.
I left the hospital,
Without you that day.
With me a box of tissues,
As I stumbled away.
As the tears fell upon you,
As I whispered good-bye.
I told you I love you and always will.
Dear Baby, you are the first love of my life.
The choices I made for us,
I felt were right.
They will love you and hold you,
Sing you lullabies at night.
Give you more than I could now.
I believe this is right.
I will miss you, I will cry.
But everyday I will know,
I gave them the world,
When, to you, I said good-bye.
